Crops
Wheat, Rice and Sugarcane are the main
crops grown in the district. Production of these crops
during the period 1998-99 to 2000-2001 is given in Table .

FORESTS.
a)
Location
of Forests and Area Under Afforestation.
An area of 1977 acres is under forest in
the district. There is also linear plantation of 1759 Km
alongside the roads/rails/canals in the district. Trees
grown in the area are Kau, Phalai, Kikar and Shisham.
b)
Production of Timber and Fire-wood.
The production of Timber and Fire-Wood in
the district is not mentionable.

Poultry
Population.
As per Punjab Development Statistics,
2000, there are 567 broiler and 102 layer poultry farms in
district Gujranwala having rearing capacity of 14175 and
1143 thousand birds respectively. There are also 5 breeding
farms having the rearing capacity of 67,000 birds.
c)
Availability of Hides / Skins and
Slaughter House Wastes
As per Punjab Development Statistics,
2000, 471000 animals were slaughtered in recognized /
un-recognized slaughter houses in the district during the
year 1999-2000 which is a fair estimate of the availability
of hides and skins in the district.

Production of Wool.
The sheep population of 77 thousand heads in the district is
